The Slater Designs Action surfboard tail pad is the latest bang on surfboard essential from the mind of the GOAT, Kelly Slater himself. He chopped a ‘ V ‘ into the tail kick to prevent the leash from catching in the middle. He also slit the arch, too. The arch support is just as wide as the arch support on the 3 and 5 piece arch pads, but it’s lower. It’s the exact feel that Kelly was chasing when previously cutting trenches into his arch support earlier this year. The square grooved edges on either side of the parallel slits give you a ‘hooked in’ feeling that other arch supports don’t. The Action Pad also gives you options; the choice to ride either a longer pad or a shorter pad, depending on how you chose to lengthen the the side pieces away from each other, or closer to each other..

This traction pad provides the necessary grip to push hard through hacks and increase speed and drive through every turn. The cutouts also create a closer connection to the board, giving the rider complete control.

Slater along with Firewire has collaborated with BLOOM Foam to create a collection of traction pads for the modern surfer with an eye on environmental issues and sustainability.

BLOOM is a high performance flexible foam made from algae biomass which has been harvested from freshwater sources around the globe.

The process literally involves skimming “pond scum” from affected sources, solar drying, pulverizing it and then foaming and forming into tail pads!

This patented technology results in a lighter, more durable and cushioned tail pad and at the same time improves the water quality in waterways by reducing the suffocating algae and re-circulating fresh water back into the environment.
